아이가 저녁을 준비하고 있는 엄마에게 조목조목 적은 종이쪽지를

엄마에게 내밀면서 시작하는 노래, No Charge ~

 

A young boy hands his mother an itemized list of charges he says he's

owed for performing various chores and comes to collect; the singer performs

this in spoken word. The mother responds (singing) by reminding her son about

all the things she's done for him, that she never asked him to pay for services

rendered and that, all things considered, "the cost of real love is no charge."

Our little boy came up to his mother and handed her a piece of paper.
After his mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it:

우리 어린 아들이 엄마에게 다가가서 종이 한장을 건넸다.

엄마는 앞치마에 손을 닦고는 그것을 읽었다.

 

For cutting the grass. $5.00
For cleaning up my room this week. $1.00
For going to the store for you. $0.50
Baby-sitting my kid brother. $0.25
Taking out the garbage. $1.00
For getting a good report card. $5.00
For cleaning up and raking the yard $2.00
Total owed : $14.75

 

잔디 깎은 것 5달러
이번 주에 내 방 청소한 것 1달러
가게에 엄마 심부름 다녀온 것 50센트
어린 동생 돌봐준 것 25센트
쓰레기 내다 버린 것 1달러

His mother looked at him standing there, expectantly.
She picked up the pen, turned the paper over and wrote:

엄마는 기대에 차 서 있는 아이를 바라보고는

펜을 집어들고 아이가 내민 종이를 뒤집어 이렇게 썼다.

 

Nine months I carried you while you were insied me:
No charge.
아홉달 동안 내 뱃속에 너를 데리고 다닌것
무료

 

The times I've sat with you, doctored and prayed for you:

네옆에 앉아 너를 간호하고 너를 위해 기도한 시간들:
무료

 

 

For all the tears that you've caused through the years:
No charge.

너 때문에 여러 해 동안 흘린 눈물 :
무료.

 

For all the nights that were filled with dread,

and the worries I knew were ahead:
No charge.

너 때문에 불안으로 지샌 모든 밤들과 너에 대한 끝없는 염려:

For the toys,food,clothes,and even wiping your nose,

And when you add it all up, the full cost of real love is,

장난감, 음식, 옷,심지어는 네 코를 풀어준 것까지도 모두 무료다 아들아.
그래서 네가 이것을 모두 더하게 되면, 참된 사랑이라는게 되는데 그 값도
무료.

 

When our son finished reading what his mother had written,

there were great big old tears in his eyes.

아들은 엄마가 쓴 글을 다 읽고 나더니 묵은 눈물을 뚝뚝 흘렸다.

 

He looked straight at his mother and said,

"Mom, I sure do love you,"
And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote:
"PAID IN FULL."

아이는 엄마를 똑바로 쳐다보면 말했다.
"엄마, 정말 사랑해요."
그리고 나서, 펜을 꺼내 아주 큰 글씨로 이렇게 썼다.

"모두다 지불되었음."
